A former travel magazine editor and past president of the Society of American Travel Writers, she teaches magazine reporting at Indiana University. She grew up in northern Indiana and moved from Chicago to southern Indiana for the hills, hiking, and culture.

WINGS Offers Outdoor Adventures for Women by Women

Late last year, a group called Women in Nature Gaining Skills (WINGS) was formed to encourage women to participate in outdoor activities such as archery, hiking, kayaking, fishing, and birdwatching. Fire@Nite, Sculpture Trails Iron Pour, ‘Lights Up the Night Sky’

This July in Greene County, Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum marks 10 years of “giving back” their passion for metalwork. The museum conducts monthlong workshops for students and working artists, with many events open to the public, capped by the Fire@Nite Iron Pour, which “lights up the night sky,” says writer Laurie D.
